SB 793

On November 8, 2022, California voters officially prohibited retailers from selling or otherwise furnishing tobacco products, to a person under 21 years of age. Existing law also prohibits the use of tobacco products in county offices of education, on charter school or school district property, or near a playground or youth sports event. If someone were to be caught, a fine of $250 would be charged for each violation of law. This law benefits youth by reducing the risk of addiction by tobacco products such as vapes and e-cigarettes. California is one of two states to ban most tobacco flavored products after Massachusetts. Many believe that this is just a step towards a nationwide ban.
